Dinwiddie County Family Court Records
Family law proceedings in Dinwiddie County are handled by two courts depending on the nature of the case. The Juvenile & Domestic Relations (J&DR) District Court has primary jurisdiction over a broad range of family matters, while the Circuit Court handles divorce proceedings, division of marital property, and appeals from J&DR Court decisions.

Marriage Records: The Dinwiddie County Circuit Court Clerk holds marriage licenses and registers dating from 1863 to the present. To obtain a certified copy of a marriage license, complete the Request Copy of Marriage License form and submit it in person or by mail with a fee of $3.00 per copy. Only the parties to the marriage may complete this form. Birth and Death Records: Certified copies of birth and death certificates are obtained through the Virginia Department of Health Vital Records Office, which charges $15.00 per certificate search. Birth records are restricted for 100 years; only the registrant, immediate family members with valid ID, and legal guardians with proof of custody may obtain certified copies during that period. Death records are restricted for 25 years after the date of death.

Dinwiddie County Probate Court Records
